2 city hall employees arrested for drugs
TWO employees of the Dagupan City government and another person caught using illegal drugs were arrested by the police for drug use in the afternoon of July 26 in a house on Fernandez Street.
Supt. Romeo Caramat Jr, city police chief, identified the arrested persons as Perfecto Velasquez Jr., 50, member of the city Market Division; Heroine Aquino, 29, member of the Anti-Hawking Division; and Crisanto Rona, 42, all married and residents of Barangay Carael.
Velasquez is the son of Barangay Chairman Perfecto Velasquez Sr. of Carael.
Confiscated from the three were seven plastic sachets containing shabu weighing more or less one gram and assorted drug paraphernalia.
“What’s frightening here is government employees are involved in illegal drugs and they were caught at 2:30 p.m. which is supposed to be working hours,” said Caramat.
“How can they perform their duties if they are hooked on drugs?,” he added.
Caramat said he immediately informed Mayor Benjamin Lim about the arrest of the two city government employees.
Lim has ordered the temporary suspension of the two city hall employees.
“Nalulungkot tayo sa pagkakahuli ngdalawang empleyado ng city hall. Ganunpaman, bibigyan natin sila ng due eprocess. Both will have to undergo tests,” Lim said.
Following the incident, Lim said he is now considering conducting a random drug test for all city hall employees.
“This is to ensure na dito sa ating sariling bahay ay walang gumagamit ng droga. Ipakita natin na mismong dito sa city hall ay nag-iingat tayo na walang ganito sa ating mga kawani,” said the mayor who has ordered the police to intensify the campaign against illegal drugs in the city.
The mayor is waiting for the approval of a P1.5 million supplemental budget he earlier requested from the Sangguniang Panlungsod to be used for the creation of an local anti-drug council, including the barangay anti-drug council. (Eva Visperas with report from CIO)
