Woman swindler faces large-scale estafa

SAN QUINTIN–A woman is now facing a case of large-scale estafa after she swindled an engineer and contractor in the amount of P1.05 million, supposedly as partial payment for her purported expenses for transactions with some town officials relating to the construction of the two-storey San Quintin Public Market.

Engineer Rodolfo Catu, 53, of 43 PRKS Bakakeng Norte, Baguio City, was assisted by San Quintin Mayor Romulo Antolin and members of the Sangguniang Bayan led by Vice Mayor Fidel Reyes in filing a complaint before the police against one Violeta Calo, 62, a broker and a resident of Quezon City.

The complaint stated that Calo, on several occasions starting from September 1, 2011 to January 2012, took a total amount of P1.05 million at P50,000 per occasion from Catu, purportedly  as partial payment for miscellaneous expenses  for her transactions with the local government.

Catu later found out that the amount was not used for the intended purpose by the suspect.

A case of large-scale estafa was filed by the police against the suspect before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor of Tayug on March 31.
