UL College of Nursing alumni hold reunion in NYC

THE alumni of the University of Luzon, College of Nursing in Dagupan City held a class reunion to celebrate the golden anniversary of their graduation at the La Guardia Plaza Hotel in New York City with a buffet dinner and dance, last May 26-29, 2012.

Rosie Ramos Catubig, RD, their instructor in Nutrition in college, expressed her admiration for the nurses’ compassion to their patients even as she paid tribute to the pioneering class of the college of nursing and praised them as she recalled their determination to excel in their studies.

She said she was happy to learn that they are successful in the exercise of their chosen profession and are now reaping the fruits of their early sacrifices and endeavors.

Meanwhile, Aida Cordero Sarmiento, the surgical nursing instructor, said she was delighted to see her former students after so many years.

Cora Ancheta Medina formally welcomed the visiting alumni, while Cecile Balolong Melendez introduced the guest speaker.

Among those who attended, who shared personal anecdotes were Purificacion Casuga Acorda (Philippines), Daisy Casem Martinez (Philippines), Juliet Baltazar Mascarenhas (Oregon), Filomena Columbres Espinoza (California), Lydia Fenix Orejudos (California), Brenda Gaceta Diaz (llinois), Naty Aragones Rosenberg (Virginia), Trinidad Tibig Abarquez (California), Rosita Munar Casilla (Canada), Kathleen Baccay Alvarez (New York), Evelina Tibig (California, class’67), Corazon Ancheta Medina (New York) and Cecile Balolong Melendez (Louisiana)

A sumptuous outdoor BBQ was hosted by couple Fred and Cora Medina for the guests. After the luncheon, a trip around New York City was hosted by Kathleen Baccay Alvarez who later treated everyone to a Japanese buffet dinner.
