‘Tunnel robbers’ empty pawnshop vault

URDANETA CITY–A pawnshop on Aruego Street in Poblacion here lost some P500,000 worth of assorted jewelry and cash from unidentified robbers who bore a whole under the establishment connected  to an adjacent drainage canal.

The break-in at the FMC Pawnshop is suspected to have happened on the night or early morning of June 11.

The heist was discovered at 8:00 a.m. on June 12 when the appraiser and the security guard on duty reported for work.

Corazon Nieto Velasco, the appraiser, and Rollin Doloqui Soriano, the security guard on duty, immediately called the police when they found the pawnshop in disarray.

Responding policemen discovered a hole on the cemented floor that leads to a drainage canal, evidently was used by the suspects as their points of entry and exit to and from the pawnshop.

The police are continuing with the investigation noting that there was no sign of the vault being forced open.
