FOR RELIEF OPERATIONS

LINGAYEN—Local government units (LGUs) can now buy on credit rice for relief operations and rehabilitation from the National Food Authority-Western Pangasinan branch under the agency’s Rice Loan program.

NFA Provincial Manager Beverlyn Peralta said under the program, LGUs will have to sign a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the NFA in order to avail of the rice loan either for immediate relief operations or for stockpiling for distribution in the event of a disaster.

“It is designed to cushion the impact of various calamities that may hit the country and will ensure the LGU’s priority access to NFA rice for its immediate relief distribution operations,” Peralta said.

The request for rice by the LGUs will be subject to approval upon submission of the requirements as stipulated in the MOA, which will be renewable every year.

The price of rice will be based on the NFA Consumers’ Price as indicated in the latest Selling Price Bulletin (SPB), Peralta explained.  (PIA-Pangasinan with report from NFA)
