Minumum tricycle fare up in Dagupan

THE Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) is set to approve a P10 minimum fare for tricycles for the first three kilometers and an additional P2 for every kilometer thereafter.

The decision was reached during a hearing conducted by the committee on public utilities chaired by Councilor Karlos Liberato Reyna III.

During the consultation, members of the Federation of Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association of Dagupan (FATODAG) headed by Amado Tagana sought a P10 minimum fare for the first three kilometers.

Tagana said the new fare was actually an amendment to the previous ordinance passed by the SP last year that pegged the minimum fare to P10 for the first two kilometers, but was vetoed by Mayor Benjamin Lim.

He said the mayor agreed to the P10, but not on the minimum distance of two kilometers.

The committee hearing was attended by Public Order and Safety Office chief  Robert Erfe Mejia and representatives of the riding public.

Meanwhile, Ronnie Quinto, former FATODAG president, said they agreed that the special fare be pegged at P20 minimum for tricycles parked in holding areas and contracted by a single person. For two riders or more riders, the minimum of P10 each would apply.

The new ordinance will amend an old ordinance passed in early 2000 that pegged the minimum fare for tricycle at P7 for every four kilometers and an additional P1 per kilometer.

The new tricycle fares will be in effect as soon as a fare matrix is placed inside the sidecar of every motorized tricycle for the guidance of all commuters.
