Lim meets stakeholders for another memo signing
TOWARDS A DRUG-FREE CITY
DAGUPAN Mayor Benjamin S. Lim gathered representatives from various government agencies and civic groups last Thursday to concretize plans to combat the thriving illegal drugs trade in the city.
In the Muti-Sectoral Anti-Illegal Drugs Campaign Pre-Memorandum of Agreement Signing Conference, Lim enjoined the leaders to support his thrust to eradicate the menace.
“Together, let’s make Dagupan a drug-free city… All I need from you is your pure (sic) volunteerism and honest, sincere commitment to solve the problem,” Lim told the group leaders.
Representatives from Calasiao’s Muslim and the city’s Chinese communities, chambers of commerce and industry, volunteers, brotherhoods, media, riders, shooters and other civic groups joined the meeting and have pledged to ink the agreement on June 18.
Lim acknowledged that there is a study that points to drug addiction as the root cause of 50 percent of reported crimes in every community.
The mayor, who earlier signed a memorandum of agreement with the community leaders of Bonuan Binloc, known to be the center of illegal drug trading, said he is aiming for “diverse-yet-comprehensive programs, especially in providing aid to operatives in catching the ‘big fishes’.
Representatives from the Department of Education (DepEd)-Dagupan, Philippine National Police (PNP)-Dagupan, City Prosecutor’s Office, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Western Pangasinan Sector Special Enforcement Team (PDEA-WPSSET), the city Muslim community and National Bureau of Investigation (NBI)-Pangasinan participated in the conference and presented the projects of their respective offices as well as their mandate in bolstering campaign against the illegal drugs.
