LINGAYEN—An ancestral home of the Bengson-Yuson family, built in 1802 at the center of this capital town, will soon be owned by the province and made part of the historical-cultural preservation program.

The provincial board passed a resolution last week authorizing Gov. Amado Espino Jr. to sign and accept the deed of donation from the family.

The heirs of Antonio Bengson and Soferaña Yuson, represented by lawyer Antonio Bengson III, have indicated that they are willing to donate, transfer and/or relinquish their rights over the house and lot located near other historical landmarks like the Casa Real, which was built in 1840 and was the seat of the provincial government during the Spanish era.

The board resolution reads: “In line with the primary concern of the province of Pangasinan to work for the preservation of its culture and heritage, it is also willing to accept and receive the donation of historically significant structures such as the Bengson-Yuson house and cause the restoration, conservation, protection and maintenance of the same to its original architectural design.”

Vice Gov. Jose Ferdinand Calimlim Jr., author of the resolution, said, “It is to the best interest of the provincial government of Pangasinan to authorize the provincial governor to sign a deed of donation and accept the said property,” Calimlim said.

Bengson, for his part, said he can now rest assured that their ancestral home would be properly taken care of by the provincial government as a lasting legacy for the people of Pangasinan.—Eva Visperas
