LINGAYEN—- Some165 personnel from the provincial government offices, local government units (LGUs), Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Army and non-government organizations (NGOs) donated 74,250cc of blood during the Blood-Letting Program held June 20, 2012 at the Provincial Training and Development Center here.

Contained in 165 bags, the donated volumes of blood were turned over to the Philippine Red Cross Dagupan City, Provincial Health Officer Anna Maria Teresa de Guzman, said.

The activity was undertaken to augment blood supply in provincial government-run hospitals.

De Guzman said the bloodletting was “timely most especially this rainy season with the expected rise of dengue cases needing more blood and also, mothers who experience untoward complications/problems upon delivery of a child.”

Earlier, Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. urged provincial government employees to join the charitable advocacy as he noted the theme, “Dugo Mo, Dugtong ng Buhay Ko,” calls for the involvement of the more than 3,000 employees in the provincial government.

Sa mga wala namang kakayahang mag-ambag ng monetary contributions, hopefully sana kahit dugo na lang ang maiambag para pandugtong sa buhay ng mga nangangailangan nating kababayan,” De Guzman said.

Acting Governor Jose Ferdinand Z. Calimlim Jr. commended the blood donors, organizers and cooperating agencies for the success of the activity.

Ngayong 64th birthday ng ating butihing Gobernador, kapit-bisig at kapit-kamay tayong magsama-sama upangmadugtungan ang buhay ng kapwa natin Pangasinense through blood donations,” Calimlim said.

Blood donors from the provincial government were led by Board Members Jeremy Agerico Rosario, Chief Administrative Officer Dr. Irmina Francisco, Social Welfare Development Officer Emilio Samson, Health Officer Dr. Anna Maria Teresa de Guzman, and PHO Chief Administrative Officer Rommel Cardinoza.

The provincial government has sponsored similar bloodletting activities through the initiatives of BM John Cristopher Arcinue, SK Pangasinan Federation President and BM Amadeo T. Espino, Liga ng mga Barangay Provincial Federation President.

De Guzman said the Provincial Health Office is set to hold another bloodletting activity in November. (PIO/MarkGerry N. Oblanca)
