LINGAYEN– -The provincial government has released P276,777  as payment for the special services rendered by some 67 youth who were hired during the summer break under the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) Special Program of Employment for Students (SPES).

Employed were less-privileged students, school dropouts or out-of-school youths who intend to go back to school this school year.

Provincial Administrator Rafael F. Baraan, who represented Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. during the distribution of cash incentives last May 28, said the program is a big support to Pangasinan’s youth who come from indigent families even as he added that the activity also aims to make them self-sufficient.

The funding for the wages is shared by the provincial government and the DOLE at 60% and 40%, respectively.

The 67 youth were assigned in various provincial offices such as the Provincial Employment and Services Office (PESO),Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC), and government hospitals located in Sa nCarlos City, Urdaneta City and Bayambang from April 17 to May 15.

PESO Chief Alex F. Ferrer said that the participants rendered a total of 20 working days in their assigned stations.

Ferrer noted that from the usual slot of 50, the summer job slots have increased this year to accommodate more indigent youth who each received a wage of P334 per day.

The PESO Chief said the release of their remaining 40% wage will be announced by the DOLE. (PIO/Ruby R. Bernardino)
