DRUG WAR OR VIGILANTES’ WAR ?

TWO notorious drug dealers and one suspected pusher that remain unidentified were killed over a span of two days in Dagupan City and a police investigation is underway on what could possibly be an ongoing drug war.

A shooting incident transpired along Perez Boulevard in Dagupan on the night of June 15 where the dead were two notorious drug pushers.

Senior Inspector Junmar Gonzales, intelligence officer of the Dagupan police, said they already have a suspect who shot dead one Billymar Callanta, 44, of Arzadon Compound in Barangay, Mayombo, Dagupan City, and a certain “Pael”.

Information gathered by investigators showed that both were allegedly working as drug couriers in Bonuan Tondaligan, a place known as a major source of illegal drugs.

A record check also showed that Callanta was also a notorious thief and was previously charged in court for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the anti-drug law but was out on bail.

The police are still trying to determine the true identity of  “Pael”.

Gonzales withheld the name of the suspect when he spoke before the Sangguniang Panlungsod last June 17, saying that the investigation is still continuing.

Based on the initial investigation by the police, there was only one gunman who shot both victims and immediately fled the scene.

The victims, who sustained gunshot wounds in their heads and different parts of their bodies, were immediately rushed by responding policemen to the Region1 Medical Center where they were declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Recovered from the crime scene were 14 empty cartridges and four slugs of still unknown caliber of firearm.

UNIDENTIFIED

Meanwhile, a day before the twin killings, a cadaver of another suspected drug pusher was discovered in a shallow grave in Sitio Barracks, Bonuan Boquig at about 3:00 p.m. of June 14.

The still unidentified victim was 5 feet 4 inches tall, with a big body built, long straight hair, brown complexion, and approximately 30 to 35 years old.

The cadaver was found inside a compound where the caretaker is a certain Gil “Bentong” Calaunan, 49 years old, widower, and a jeepney driver.
