150 scholarships given to 4P beneficiaries
THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-Field Office has identified 150 qualified scholars under the Students Grants-In-Aid Program for Poverty Alleviation (SGPPA) in Region 1.
Iryn de Los Reyes of the DSWD said SGPPA is a program, in partnership with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) that provides scholarship assistance to Pantawid Pamilya Program beneficiaries.
SGPPA identified beneficiaries who are willing to attend school or completed high school and/or its equivalent, not more than 30 years old, and have passed the entrance exam and academic requirement set by the leading State Universities and Colleges (SUCs).
“Mag-aaral po akong mabuti para guminhawa ang buhay ng aming pamilya… Iba po kasi ang may pinag-aralan ,” Aiza Manis, 24, a student beneficiary from Agno said.
A student-beneficiary is entitled to a maximum of P60,000 grant per school year or P30,000 per semester for tuition fees provided they are able to sustain completion of their cvhosen degree program within a required satisfactory grade.
In Region 1, the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU) and Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (MMSU) were the identified to provide priority degree programs, nanmely: Information Technology, Agriculture and Related Arts, Education, Engineering, Health and Sciences, Arts and Humanities, Atmospheric Science, and Environmental Science.
To date, there are 59 student-beneficiaries in the region already enrolled in the program while others are still enrolling.
