Teacher with fake license sent to prison
A TEACHER in Lingayen found to have been using a forged secondary professional teacher license was recently sent to prison for a minimum of four months and one day and a maximum of two years four months and one day, plus a P5,000 fine.
In a decision promulgated last January 17, 2012, Lingayen Municipal Trial Court Judge Mervin Jovito S. Samadan found Mary Grace Bautista-Fernandez guilty of falsification of public document.
Fernandez was charged by the Pangasinan Provincial Prosecutor’s Office upon the complaint of the Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC) on the use of a forged license.
PRC Chairperson Tersita R. Manzala said the court judgment once again demonstrates the determination of the PRC to protect the public welfare through effective regulation of professional practice.
Manzala said the court decision is the first conviction among 18 other cases that the PRC Baguio Regional Office is investigating or has filed in various courts.
She directed the PRC Baguio Office to further intensify anti-fixing programs in cooperation with regional agencies and local government units while commending the PRC Baguio Regional Office, National Bureau of Investigation–CAR and the Pangasinan Provincial Prosecutor’s Office for pursuing the case that led to a conviction.
Manzala also warned aspiring professionals against dealing with fixers and to pass the licensure examinations through legitimate means.
She advised employers to verify claims of professional status through www.prc.gov.ph.
