Robredo, Espino break ground for resettlement project
LINGAYEN–“Ito ay pag-aayos ng buhay ng ordinaryong mamamayan at ang pagkakaroon nila ng mas matatag na kabuhayan.”
This was the message of Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Pangasinan Resettlement Project on May 1 in Barangay Pangapisan Norte here.
The simple ceremony was held after the Pakar Awards and Commemorative Program held at Bañaga in Bugallon where Robredo was the guest of honor.
Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. announced that the resettlement project is the fulfillment of a promise he had made earlier with the informal settlers in the barangay.
“Ayamay impormisak nen saman. Natan anisia kayo la,” Espino said.
The governor said the provincial government will provide for the important needs of a small community within the resettlement project.
The groundbreaking rites included the lowering of the time capsule led by Robredo, Espino, Vice Gov. Jose Ferdinand Calimlim, 2nd District Representative Leopoldo Bataoil, Mayor Ernesto Castañeda of Lingayen and some Sangguniang Panlalawigan members.
The resettlement project aims to benefit some 200 informal settlers occupying hazardous areas like riverbanks, shorelines and public places.
It sits in a 2.4 hectare lot with each housing unit having a floor area of 27 square meters and lot area of 54 square meters.
Some P30 million has been allocated by the provincial government for the construction.
The housing project has as wide asphalt-paved road, open-lined drainage canal system, open space for community parks and playground, wide riverside promenade, power supply system and communal water system. (PIO/Sheila H. Aquino)
