Guv commends Pangasinan athletes
LINGAYEN–Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. commended all Pangasinan athletes who participated in the Palarong Pambansa 2012 held May 6 to 12, especially those who figured well in the medal standings that gave Region 1 a lift in the overall rankings from 12th in 2011 to 9th this year.
The governor said that the sterling performances of the young athletes inspires the provincial government to invest in an innovative sports development program to further hone the prowess of the youth through the establishment of the Pangasinan Sports Academy.
Four Pangasinan athletes contributed five gold medals, which pushed Region 1 up in the ranking. The four gold medalists include Samantha Glo Revita for chess (elementary-girls) and another gold for chess-team category together with Danica Alexis Ablang, Danilo Abarra for athletics-javelin throw, and Dyrham Palfrey for swimming (freestyle relay-elementary boys).
Aside from the five gold, homegrown athletes also pocketed five silver and 25 bronze. Some athletes also landed in the 4th, 5th and 6th places in different sporting events.
Overwhelmed with the results, Espino vowed to continue giving priority to the improvement of the province’s sports development program to pave a brighter future for Pangasinan athletes. (PIO/RubyR.Bernardino)
