THE City Government of Dagupan, through the Agriculture Office, will soon launch a food processing training to help displaced fisherfolks in the city find an alternative source of living with the support of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

City agriculturist Emma Molina said DOLE has already approved the release of P182,093 early this year to train 30 beneficiaries from Barangay Pugaro and another 30 from Salapingao to learn at least five recipes, namely: bangus satsumagi, fish balls, bangus nuggets, fish siomai and fish empanada.

“The amount given by DOLE, which was deposited as a trust fund, will be used for capacity-building through a food processing training to be conducted in June, “ Molina said.

The city will contribute a fund of P50,000 to enhance the cooking skills of participants as well as to assist them in becoming accredited food handlers to be certified by the City Health Office (CHO).

“The participants will not only be trained to cook but the trainees will also be encouraged to attend a business development training to they will be taught basic bookkeeping and budgeting skills to name a few,” Molina said. (CIO)
