Binmaley ex-mayor reports death threats

BINMALEY–Former Mayor Simplicio Rosario of this town revealed he is being hounded in Manila and in the province by unidentified men whom he suspects are hired guns contracted to kill him.

“I learned that an initial P200,000  was already paid to hired guns  for a job to eliminate me,” said Rosario,  who was mayor of Binmaley from 2004 to 2010.

The former mayor called for a press conference last May 20 where he detailed a supposed plot he unearthed from the police intelligence community that he has been marked for liquidation.

Rosario said there were persons were seen casing his house in Manila and tailing his car.

Reading a press statement before the media with his lawyer Armenio Escat, Rosario said the paid assassins have learned where he and his family live in Manila, the plate numbers of his vehicles, his work schedule and the places he frequents.

He said he has began taking all the necessary precautions “because I love my family.”

In exposing the threat to the media, he said he hopes that that the paid assassins and the mastermind would rethink pursuing their plot.

Rosario is a consultant to Vice President Jejomar Binay and is also back to his old business as a contractor in Metro Manila.

He theorized that the plot to assassinate him may not be in connection with his business in Manila nor his association with the vice president but more likely due to local politics.

Rosario admitted that such threats are not also new to him because he was already the target of an assassination attempt when he was mayor.

CEREZO SAYS NOT ME

Meanwhile, incumbent Mayor Lorenzo Cerezo, who defeated Rosario in the 2010 polls, flatly denied he had anything to do with the reported plot to kill Rosario.

Cerezo said he himself does not keep bodyguards and he has no capacity to contract a killing.

Rosario said no one should take the threat lightly citing the case of couple Ramon and Zorahayda Arcinue who were killed in front of their rented apartment in Sampaloc Manila in March this year.

The killings of the Arcinue couple remain unsolved even as the couple’s eldest son Carl Jonathan Arcinue continues to appeal over the radio in Pangasinan for help in the apprehension of the killers and the mastermind.

Rosario also stressed that he is not simply trying to gain political mileage with the scheduled elections in May next year.

The ex-mayor said he has already asked the Philippine National Police in Camp Crame as well as in Region 1, Pangasinan and Binmaley to look into the threat.
