“Abandon culture of corruption” — Ombudsman
ROSALES—Now that the Office of the Ombudsman has an office in Barangay Carmay East here, Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales is hoping Pangasinenses will be encouraged to stand up and file cases against erring public officials.
“We have to cooperate so that we can abandon the culture of corruption and proceed in eradicating the culture of graft and in breaking the cycle of impunity,” Morales said during the simple ceremony for the inauguration of the OMB-Rosales last April 30.
She vowed that cases filed against public officials “who are working for the interest of their pockets and not for the welfare of the people” at the satellite office will be treated as priority.
“This would address any delay and would involve more people in fighting graft,” she said.
OMB-Rosales is located inside a newly established government center where several other government offices already have or are building offices.
FOR NORTHERN LUZON
OMB-Rosales, the second satellite office of OMB-Luzon after OMB-Calambain in Laguna, is under the direct supervision of the Office of the Deputy Ombudsman for Luzon.
It will primarily serve Regions I, II, III and the Cordillera Autonomous Region (CAR).
Racquel Rosario Cunanan-Marayag, officer-in-charge of the Public Assistance and Corruption Prevention Office of the Office of the Deputy Ombudsman for Luzon, said Rosales town is a fitting location as it can be easily accessed by people from the surrounding provinces within northern Luzon.
Once fully operational, the satellite office shall bring “the gospel of good governance, public accountability and assistance closer to the people of northern Luzon and nearby provinces”, said Morales who hails from Ilocos Norte.
The hearing room in the newly inaugurated building is still being completed while installation of other facilities, like telephones and communications access are underway.
At the same time, Morales called on government officials to “focus on delivering their service to the people with integrity and must always prioritize public interest above else.”
Also present during the inauguration was former Ombudsman Mercedita Gutierrez under whose helm the construction of the building was started on a lot donated by businessman Prancasio “Bubby” Rodriguez.
Others who graced the inauguration included local officials led by Rosales Mayor Ricardo Revita, and members of the Sangguniang Bayan of Rosales; Former Rep. Conrado M. Estrella III, Quirino Gov. Junie Cua, Assistant Ombudsman Weomark Layson, Director Rabendranath Uy and Atty. Maricel Marcial-Oquendo. (with report from PIA-Pangasinan)
