3 teenagers shot dead by a man gone berserk

ALAMINOS CITY–Three teenagers were shot at and killed by a man who ran amok in Barangay Bisocol here at about 9:00 p.m. on May 14.

The fatalities were shot one after the other by Aaron Mansongayan, 35, who apparently went berserk after learning that his live-in partner left him after finding out that he has another woman.

The fatalities were identified as Sonny Boy Asia, 19; John David Almanzor, 14; and Wilcyn Palecpec, 19, who were standing in front of a store when shot by Mansongayan using a Caliber 45 pistol.

Before the shooting, Mansongayan had a gun scuffle with Gilbert Ramiscal, 18, younger brother of his live-in partner, shortly after finding that the boy’s sister has left their home.

Mansongayan actually shot Ramiscal but the latter was able to parry the hand of the former, and the bullet hit the ground. The stronger Mansongayan prevailed in their scuffle but he nevertheless did not shoot the boy.

He then ran to an adjacent store where he shot anybody on sight before fleeing aboard a motorcycle.

SENSELESS CRIME

Mansongayan remains at large but three counts of murder have already been filed in court against him.

Superintendent Rolie Saltat, Alaminos chief of police, said the cases filed on May 16 by the families of the victims before the city prosecutor’s office is strong enough to secure the conviction of Mansongayan.

At least four persons witnessed the shooting, including Ramiscal.

Mayor Hernani Braganza has ordered the police to exhaust all efforts to resolve the murders.

“We will leave no stone unturned until justice is served to the victims and their families,” the mayor said, calling the incident a “senseless crime”.

Meanwhile, Braganza appealed to pranksters to stop circulating text messages insinuating that the crime committed was brought about by religious differences.

The mayor stressed that the relationship between the Muslim community of the city and the local leaders was not strained by the incident.
