3 men found dead inside van

ASINGAN—The police are still facing a blank wall in connection with the discovery of three bodies, all of whom had bullet wounds at the back of their heads, inside a van parked along the roadside in Barangay San Vicente here Thursday night.

The victims were discovered by one Lito Malubay, a member of the Civilian Volunteer Organization (CVO) at about 7:50 p.m. when he approached the parked Nissan Frontier, colored maroon with Plate No. GWL-333.

Upon looking through the window, he immediately realized that the three men were dead and had bullet wounds.

Senior Inspector Genevieve Poblete, deputy chief of Police of Asingan, said the dead men, identified through documents found in their pocket, are Rodolfo Cayetano of San Juan City, Metro Manila, owner of the van; the driver, Alberto Reyes from Nueva Ecija; and his teenaged son Joel Reyes.

All the victims had gunshot wounds in the nape and were believed to have been shot at close range with a Cal. 45pistol as evidenced by two empty shells found at the crime scene.

It was learned that the Nissan Frontier was seen by residents parked along the roadside as early as Thursday morning.

Nobody initially paid attention to the vehicle thinking that the occupants may just have pulled over for a rest.

When the police broke open the van, they found the driver in front of the steering wheel with Cayetano at the back of the driver’s seat, and Joel at the back seat.

Poblete said they found inside the van a cash amount of P42,545 in the possession of Cayetano while a cellphone was found in the pocket of Alberto.

The cellphones of Cayetano as well as the young Reyes were missing.

Using the cellphone found by the police from the crime scene, investigators called up Cayetano’s wife and she arrived in Asingan Friday morning.

Chief Inspector Arnold Solomon, chief of police of Asingan, said robbery could be the motive of the triple slaying but the suspects may have simply failed to cart away all the cash in the hands of the victims.

Solomon said based on the initial investigation of the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO), points to the shooting happening inside the van by a still unidentified perpetrator or perpetrators who rode with the three victims.
