VM Fernandez bags 2 awards in U.S. visit

DAGUPAN City Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez received two commendations during her recent official business trip to the United States from April 16 to 22.

The awards were presented by the Dagupan City Association of Northern California Inc. (DCANCI) headed by Marlene Garibay, president; and Milpitas City, a sister-city of Dagupan, whose mayor, Jose Esteves is a son of Dagupan.

DCANCI honored Fernandez with the “Dayew na Dagupan” award while Milpitas City presented an award citing Fernandez for her exemplary work as a public servant and businesswoman.

Both awards were given to the Dagupan vice mayor in ceremonies at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Burlingame, California, coinciding with the annual dinner and ball of DCANCI.

The “Dayew na Dagupan” award recognizes and pays tribute to the outstanding men and women who hail from Dagupan or have ancestry from Dagupan and have distinguished themselves in their chosen careers.

On the other hand, Milipitas City commended Fernandez for her exemplary role in the establishment of the Dagupan-Milpitas sister city relationship that promotes good governance, youth education, respect for culture and true service for the people.

Fernandez now joins the ranks of notable “Dayew na Dagupan” awardees that include former Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr., former Dagupan City Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr., former Dagupan City Administrator Alvin Fernandez and Milipitas City Mayor Jose Esteves.

Bernard Valdez, chairman of the awards committee, Marlene Garibay, president of the Dagupan City Association of Northern California, and Eva Aquino, member of the committee join Dagupan City Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez after she received the “Dayew na Dagupan’ aware during the annual dinner and ball of the association at Crowne Plaza in San Francisco California.

The city of Milpitas in California commends Dagupan City Vice Mayor Fernandez for her “exemplary role in forging the Dagupan-Milpitas sister city relationship” a few years ago. Milipitas Mayor Jose Estevez of Milpitas City, Fafe Garcia, Rose Garcia, Dr. Lyn Balolong, and Bernard Valdez were among those who presented the award.
