VM dares BSL: Sell Awai land instead
VICE Mayor Belen Fernandez has challenged Mayor Benjamin Lim to sell the 30-hectare property bought under his administration in Barangay Awai, San Jacinto instead of the MC Adore property and the city’s 10-hectare property in Calasiao.
“Yon na lang (Awai property) ang dapat ibenta niya… Baka maibenta niya ito ng mataas, ma-recover nating ang perang ipinambili niya, ” Fernandez said in her closing statement before the KBP Forum, last week.
The Awai property was bought for P16 million by Lim in 2002 during his first term of office ostensibly to convert it into a sanitary landfill for Dagupan.
However, the city was never able to take ownership of the property as it was apparently already declared part of the government’s Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program and was due for distribution to farmers even before the city paid the landowner, Jose Mariano Cuna, a business ally of Lim.
The Lim administration never attempted to recover the money even after the Fernandez administration was finally told the city could not take possession of the farm in San Jacinto after several appeals by the city were rejected.
The vice mayor fears that Lim’s blanket authority to sell the MC Adore and Calasiao properties will result in more huge losses for the city.
