Region 1 seeks gold harvest
PRISAA National Collegiate Games
THE Region 1 delegation, composed mostly of athletes from Pangasinan, are already in Cebu City for the 2012 National Collegiate Games of the Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) that will be held on April 23-27.
The region’s athletes are competing in several events and hopes are high for a gold medal harvest in athletics, taekwondo and karatedo.
Atty. Gonzalo T. Duque, PRSIAA regional president and president of the Lyceum-Northwestern University president, arrived in Cebu optimistic that the delegation composed of 200 athletes, coaches and officials will improve its overall rank this year.
The event is participated in by some 5,000 athletes, coaches and officials representing 17 regional delegations and competing in 19 individual and teams events. At stake are 900 gold, silver, and bronze medals.
After the opening ceremonies last week, a Grand “Palabas” was held featuring five of Cebu’s festivals and the “Sinulog” tribal dances of students of PRISAA member-schools, and capped by a fireworks display. –Philamer C. Celi
