LINGAYEN—More than 3,000 employees of the provincial government started receiving on April 1 the third tranche of their salary increase ranging from 10 to 15 percent of their pay grade.

A budget of P65.8 million has been set aside for the pay hike.

“Everyone will be given an increase, including casual or job order employees,” said Hilaria Claveria, provincial budget officer.

Casual employees that used to receive P344.31/day will now get P376.68/day and the same applies to job order employees who will a have similar increase, according to Claveria.

Provincial government employees have enjoyed five salary increases since the start of the administration of Gov. Amado Espino Jr. in July 2007.

The increase is mandated by law but the implementation by a local government unit depends on the availability of funds, Claveria explained.

There are four tranches of salary increases already approved and Pangasinan employees will have the fourth round by next year.–Eva Visperas
