THE Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) of the provincial government already has 67 beneficiaries.

Provincial Employment Services Office Manager Alex Ferrer said the number of beneficiaries increased by 17 compared to last year’s 50 to provide more opportunities to deserving students.

The students have started reporting for work last Monday and will stay in their respective offices for 20 days. They are assigned to government hospitals of the province, the beach area, the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center and at the PESO office, he said.

The students will be receiving a daily income of P344.41 each, 60 percent of which will be shouldered by the provincial government and the remaining 40 percent will be provided by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

Richelle Raguidin, coordinator of the SPES program, said the student-beneficiaries were chosen based primarily on their economic status and results of the interviews.

The beneficiaries include high school and college students as well as out-of-school youth  aged 15-25 years old.

The SPES is a tie-up program of the DOLE with provincial and local government units to provide employment to students during the summer vacation. (PIA-Pangasinan)
