Best Filipino hometown products and services offered at Tourism and Trade Expo

LINGAYEN—Gift items, toys, handicrafts, food, plants, furniture and services of hotels, resorts, restaurants, tour operators and travel agencies are featured at the 5th Pangasinan Tourism and Trade Expo that opened on April 11 at the Pangasinan Training and Development Center (PTDC) compound as one of the highlights of the celebration of Pangasinan Day (Agew na Pangasinan).

Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr., along with Vice Gov Jose Ferdinand Calimlim and Sangguniang Panlalawigan members, led the cutting of the ceremonial ribbon followed by the blessing of the exhibitors’ booth that was officiated by Rev. Fr. Francis Posadas.

The expo, which runs until May 15, highlights the One-Town, One-Product (OTOP) program of various municipalities and cities including small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

The exhibitors, now numbering nearly 300 and more of them still coming in, come from Pangasinan and other provinces, namely: Vigan, La Union, Samar, Bicol, Cebu, Nueva Ecija, Cagayan, Laguna, Isabela, Baguio City, Ifugao and Mt. Province.

Some of the famous hometown products on exhibit are Vigan’s mouthwatering bagnet, longganisa and empanada; woven handicrafts from Ifugao and Mt. Province; sweet pastries and handicrafts from Laguna; delicious native foodies and dry goods from Samar; lampshades, slippers, fans, ornaments, bags and hats from Cebu, Bicol and Nueva Ecija; strawberries, jams, cookies, and accessory items from Baguio and much more.

Pangasinan’s best sought-after products include dried fish, bagoong, fresh milk, veggie noodles, longganisa, shellfish, fresh fruits, beef tapa, handicrafts, muscovado, corn husks, bangus sardines, rellenong bangus, native cakes, chichacorn, furniture, accessories, ornaments and others.

After the blessing, guests and visitors proceeded inside the PTDC for lunch where Santiago B. Villafania’s book entitled ‘Pinabli and Other Poems’ was launched.

Pinabli is the author’s third book on Pangasinan poetry, with translations in English and Spanish.

Villafania is a poet and educator who was an ASNA awardee for Arts and Culture in 2010.

Tourism establishments in Pangasinan such as hotels, resorts, restaurants, tour operators and travel agencies also present their best sought-after services.

The provincial government will also present awards to the participating exhibitors under the categories of Best Tourism Exhibit, Best Local Government Unit/OTOP Presentation, and Best SME Exhibit, according to Tourism Operations Division Chief Maria Luisa Elduayan who heads the expo committee.
