Bangus Rodeo entries fascinate crowd
BANGUS FESTIVAL ROUND-UP
AN almost 13-kilogram bangus owned by Rene Landingin from Bonuan, Dagupan bagged this year’s heaviest bangus category in the Bangus Rodeo held April 26.
The longest bangus was title was awarded to Sandrell Bryan Caneng of Pantal, Dagupan with his 83.5- centimeter entry while the prettiest bangus crown went to Armand Caguioa of Binmaley.
Aquaculture industry players showed off their skills with Melecio Melendez of Barangay Pugaro winning the competition for the fastest classifier of bangus, expertly throwing in different-sized bangus into their corresponding containers, while Elvira Llena from Binmaley won the fastest bangus deboner category.
Eating skills were also put to the test and Joel Seran of Barangay Lomboy came out the fastest, finishing off a bangus within one minutes and 18 seconds.
DESIGN DAGUPAN
A digital poster-making contest dubbed Design Dagupan was held for the first time and the awarding ceremony was held last April 25 at the City Museum.
Students and professional graphic designers submited their creative interpretation of the theme “Sustainable Visionary Design for Dagupan” rendered in an 18’x24’ image entries.
Vicente Sapiera Jr. was hailed champion in the student category, followed by runners up Jerome Brian Maglana and Amando Aquino, and people’s choice awardee Samantha Nicole Calimlim.
Baguio-based designer Rio Cabajoc won in the professional group and the people’s choice award. Janvic Victoriano placed second and Arviejon De Vera ranked third.
The artworks were posted in the event’s official facebook page and in the What’s Up Dagupan blog for netizens to “like” their bet, which determined the People’s Choice awardee.
OTHER SEAFOOD
Billy James Go, 29, representing the Little Cabin restaurant, was proclaimed the overall winner in The 101 Ways To Cook Bangus contest after bagging the bangusan soup subcategory with his “Pesto Bangus soup” and the lapu-lapu subgroup with his “Mandarine Lapu-Lapu”. He placed second in the main entrée and talakitok subgroups.
First runner up was Fructuoso Cruz II with his “Bangus Land of the Rising Sun” as the best in the main course subcategory and Mary Rose Mallari of Barangay Bonuan Boquig here with her “Summer Kilawin” as the frontrunner in the appetizer/salad subcategory.
Matthew Lewis Guttierez, also a Dagupeño, edged out competitors in the oyster subgroup with his “Oyster with Mango Salsa” while Abbey Jamie Silva from Barangay Tapuac, representing the STI College, copped the top plum in the trevally category with her “Fried Talakitok with Cream of Mushroom sauce”.
GAY WIT
In the Miss Gay Festival Queen pageant, held at the City Plaza last April 22, Kevin Balotalso, known as “Anne Curtis”, a second- year nursing student from Tarlac, won the crown for his wit and expression of love for his family.
“When I see one of the members of my family crying, that makes me sad… my family are (sic) the first person (sic) who accepted me for who I am and that I sacrifice my own sadness to make them happy and I use that sadness as my inspiration as a homosexual,” Balot replied to the question “What makes you sad?”
The following night, Dance group North Syndicate’s groove reigned supreme in the Danziklaban, beating 26 other groups.
Other winners were: D’ Upgraded Danz, first runner up; Retrograde Wallop, second runner up; Boltex Republix, third runner up; and Soul Society, fourth runner up.
Hailed as the darling of the dance floor was Joeffry’s Amazing Kids while the best in Sundance moves was the Teens Unlimited Dancer. (CIO)
