3 drown in Lingayen, Dagupan
THREE people drowned in two separate incidents in Lingayen and Dagupan even as security and safety measures have been beefed up in these coastal areas.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) reported two siblings drowned in the Lingayen Beach in the afternoon of Palm Sunday.
Of the two victims, only the body of Madelyn Vallesta, 14, of Cervantes Street in Bugallon has so far been recovered by a group of fishermen at noon of Monday at the seashore of Barangay Pugaro in Dagupan City.
The body was positively identified by the girl’s father, Rogelio Vallesta.
Madelyn was reported missing along with her older brother Mark, 18, whose body is still subject of retrieval operation by the combined team of the PDRRMC’s Water Search and Rescue (WASAR) team and the Philippine Coast Guard.
The Vallesta siblings were swimming in Lingayen with several others when big waves hit the shore, carrying the two in the deeper portion of the water but later failed to surface.
Four other near-drowning victims were reported at the Lingayen Beach on Palm Sunday, but they were rescued by members of the WASAR team.
The PDRRMC has installed three observation towers in the Lingayen beach manned 24/7 by members of WASAR.
