Young cyclists dominate Werweran ed Mangaldan

A YOUTHFUL and promising cyclist from Santo Tomas, Dominic Perez, emerged as the champion of the “Werweran ed Mangaldan 2012” bikefest by outdueling his breakaway partner Joshua Carino of Mangaldan in the last three hundred meters and won by a two-bike length distance.

Perez, 18, pocketed the P5,000 top prize while Carino, 19, netted a total of P5,500, including his dominant victories in the three of four ‘summit sprints’ donated by 2003 Tour Pilipinas champion Arnel Quirimit and Engr. Rodolfo Dion.

Perez and Carino identically clocked the 125.8 kilometers distance in three hours, 12 minutes and 48 seconds, one minute and two seconds ahead of third placer Juanito Libunao, Jr. of Agoo, La Union for P3,000.

Coming in fourth was Ronald Oranza of Villasis and ex-professional rider Pepito Calosa of San Jacinto landed fifth earning them P2,000 and P1,000, respectively.

Rounding up the top ten who received P500 and medal each were: Wilfredo Calosa of San Jacinto, Robinson Esteves of Urdaneta City, Harvey Sicam of San Manuel, Pang., Denver Casayuran of Narvacan, Ilocos Sur and Jefferson Valdez OF Asingan. There were 39 out of 60 participants that survived the fiesta race which was sponsored by town’s chief executive Herminio A. Romero and the Mangaldan Town Executive Committee headed by Coun. Ritchie G. Abalos, also the Liga ng mga Barangay president. (JAGJr.)
