MOST COMMON CAUSES OF FIRE

IT’S the Fire Prevention Month again and residents are reminded anew that the most common causes of fire in Pangasinan are still faulty electrical wiring in houses and open flame that are left unattended.

Officials of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) provincial office based in Urdaneta City reiterated the alert to avoid fire disasters.

Based on historical records, March is the period when most fires occur.

Fire Marshal Ernesto Gandia advised residents to check all wirings in their houses – have them repaired by a qualified technician, avoid overloading of electrical connections – and keep flammable materials away from children’s reach, and properly store easily combustible materials to avoid accidental fire.

FIRE INCIDENTS

Meanwhile, SFO1 Jesus Mendoza reported that fire incidents in Pangasinan decreased from 134 incidents in 2010 to 103 in 2011.

Damages also went down from P54 million to P22 million.

Structural fire tops all fire incidents with 88 cases, followed by vehicular fire with nine.

This year, eight grassfires have been recorded in Dagupan City while one structural fire was reported in Mangaldan town. (PIA-Pangasinan)
