PSU holds disaster management training Mar 22
WOMEN’S MONTH
A DIVISON of the Pangasinan State University (PSU) in Lingayen is empowering women through a disaster management training that equips them with basic knowledge on how to respond to calamities.
Dr. Fe Andico, consultant of the Gender Studies Division of PSU, said the training is part of the various activities lined up for the celebration of Women’s Month.
Faculty and students are expected to attend the training on March 22 at the PSU convention hall.
Relating to this year’s theme, ‘Women Weathering Climate Change,’ Andico said the women in the rural and urban communities are the more vulnerable sector and therefore the most affected during calamities.
“Women should be equipped of the right knowledge on what to do in times of disasters caused by changing climate,” she said during the Pantongtongan Tayo radio program of the Philippine Information Agency over DZMQ on Tuesday.
The Gender Studies group will also present a film about women who made a mark in history on March 19.
Andico said she also thought of proposing to the provincial government a contest for Ms. Urduja in lieu of the annual ‘Limgas na Dayat’ beauty pageant.
“For a change lang, because Urduja embodies women who fought for their rights,” she said.
Urduja is a legendary warrior princess who is recognized as a heroine in Pangasinan. (PIA-Pangasinan/ Venus Sarmiento)
