Pangasinan Sports Academy set for athletes
AFTER PALARONG PAMBANSA 2012
PANGASINAN’S athletes and those aspiring to be one have something big to cheer about: the establishment of the Pangasinan Sports Academy.
Governor Amado Espino Jr. announced last week that the provincial government will establish the academy after the hosting of the Palarong Pambansa 2012, which will be held in Pangasinan on May 6-12.
The project, Espino said, is in support of the national government’s youth and sports development program and a continuation of the province’s own mission to encourage sports involvement among the young.
“We have started this with our regular sports activities like chess clinics and we are committed to expand the program to sustain our sports development thrust,” he said.
Meanwhile, Espino signed the memorandum of agreement (MOA) for the hosting of the Palarong Pambansa with Education Secretary Luistro last March 14 at the Department of Education (DepEd) main office in Pasig City.
The governor reiterated his administration’s pledge to make this year’s Palaro the best in the national sporting event’s history.
Pangasinan is so far the only province in the country hosting the Palarong Pambansa twice, the first being in 1995.
The Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC) are undergoing expansion and upgrading to accommodate more than 10,000 athletes, officials, guests and spectators.
Luistro commended the preparations being undertaken and expressed optimism that the Palaro 2012 will outdo past events.
This year’s Palaro is also being planned as a “green event” to promote not only sportsmanship but also environmental protection.
