Pangasinan schools dumped in knockout games

THE two local school entries in the 64th National Students Basketball Championships failed in their mission to join the finals after they suffered a series of defeats in the hands of contending schools from other provinces.

In the battle for third place in the Junior Division, Bukidnon Faith Christian Academy dumped Divine Word Academy of Dagupan, 70-60. Only four schools competed in the division.

Meanwhile senior squad of the University of Luzon squad could only manage two wins, against San Pedro College of Business Administration and St. Louis University (Baguio) that landed them 6th place in a field of eight schools.

At presstime, the Jose Maria College (JMC) Kings of Davao City faced the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals (EAC) are playing a knockout game for the championship title in the seniors division of the last Friday afternoon at the CSI Stadia in Dagupan City.

Both the Kings and the Generals earned the berths by trouncing the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters, 66-49, and the Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) Pirates, 86-82, respectively, Friday morning.

UC and LPU were to battle it out in one game for third place.

The collegiate champion will represent its school and the Philippines in the 9th Asian University Students basketball Championship to be held in July this year, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Held for the first time in Dagupan, this year’s National Students Basketball Championships was hosted by Vice-Mayor Belen Fernandez in cooperation with the City Government of Dagupan, and the Department of Education, with support from the CSI Group of Companies and USATV.—Philamer C. Celi
