PAMMA Sea Lions eye national crown

THE Pangasinan Merchant Marine Academy (PAMMA) Sea Lions, the defending champion in the 3rd Jimmy Fernandez Cup of the Inter-Collegiate Invitational Basketball Championship, has set its sight on capturing the championship of the Men’s National Collegiate Athletic Association slated on March 27-April 1 in Naga City.

On March 28, in a twin-bill offering after the morning opening ceremonies, the Sea Lions will meet the Centro Escolar University five.

The following day, they will be pitted in the morning against 2012 National Students Basketball Championships title-holder Jose Maria College (JMC) Kings of Davao City and the Colegio the San Sebastian in the afternoon.

Coached by Junnard Borcena and assisted by Reynaldo Ata, the local squad will collide with the Ateneo de Naga on March 30 and with the John Paul II College (JPC) on March 31.

The top four teams after the single round robin tournament will advance to the semi-finals wherein Teams 1 and 2 will face off with Teams 4 and 3, respectively, in one knock-out game matches. The winners in the semi-final skirmishes will slug-it-out in a one-game championship battle, while the losers will play for third place honors.—Philamer Celi
