MSMED council eyes more entrepreneurs
THE Micro-Small-Medium Enterprises and Development Council in Pangasinan called on Pangasinenses to become entrepreneurs and contribute to the province’s economic development.
“More businesses will mean more employment and therefore will bring more progress to the province,” said Howard Chua Cham, vice-chairman of the MSMED Council and owner of several restaurants in Dagupan Cty.

Cham, in an interview with the Philippine Information Agency, said business opportunities in Pangasinan are very viable because of support of provincial and local governments to small entrepreneurs.
Representatives of the council and officials from Department of Trade and Industry, last week met with Gov. Amado Espino Jr. to present the features of Republic Act 6977, the Magna Carta for Small Enterprises, which seeks to promote entrepreneurship.
The MSMED Council told the governor that the Act will further promote local economy and showcase the products of Pangasinan.
Cham cited wood furniture from Binmaley and bamboo products of San Carlos City that are already being marketed to other parts of the country while some “Pangasinan’s Best” are also being exported to the United States with help from the provincial government.
At the same time, the group asked Espino to help ease the system for securing permits as Cham noted that many entrepreneurs have a difficult time securing these, especially fire clearance permits.
The council also plans to meet with municipal and city mayors on how to expedite that requirement.
“What they lack in capital, they have in numbers,” he added.
