MRTH strafe wrong house in subdivision

THE Dagupan Police is now investigating a strafing incident perpetrated last Tuesday by motorcycle-riding-in-tandem hitmen (MRTH) in what apparently turned out to be the wrong target house inside Sunrise Subdivision.

Superintendent Romeo Caramat Jr., chief of police of Dagupan City, said his station is in pursuit and establishing the motive in what he described as a “tragic-comedy” incident.

The still unidentified suspects sprayed bullets on the house of Jose Rodriguez, 47, a businessman, but the real target was apparently Michael Hernando, 36, president of the Dalton Clan, a fraternal organization in Dagupan, as evidenced by a note written on a piece of paper found in the front yard of Rodriguez.

Six spent shells of Caliber 9 mm. pistol and four deformed slugs were found by investigators at the crime scene.

The police theorized that those involved in the strafing incident are possibly not from Dagupan, which was why they missed their supposed target.

The closed-circuit camera installed in the front gate of the Rodriguezes showed the suspect, wearing a bonnet, throwing a piece of paper after shooting the house, hitting a parked Suzuki motorcycle.

The note reads, “Bilang na ang araw mo Bugoy”, the nickname of Hernando, who lives in the subdivision.

Hernando is a security man of Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez, but Caramat dismissed the possibility that the incident was politically motivated since the next election is still more than a year away.

Fernandez, in an interview, also said she does not believe the incident was politically motivated, but nonetheless asked the police as well as the National Bureau of Investigation to pursue the case until the perpetrators are identified and arrested.

Caramat suspects the incident was related to Hernando’s fraternity activities.

For his part, Hernando told newsmen he believes he has no enemies, but admitted that this was the second attempt on his life.

The first incident took place after the last election where he was involved in the campaign of then re-electionist Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr.
