Mapandan SK hoopfest unfolds April 8
THE annual Mapandan SK Basketball Championship will be staged on April 8 with all the 15 barangays of Mapandan expected to participate.
According to Jay Ronquillo, whose group the National Amateur Basketball Referees Organization (NABRO) Pangasinan Chapter was asked to handle the tourney’s officiating, the hoopfest is exclusive for Mapandan’s resident teenagers aged 19 years and below.
The tournament, being organized by the Mapandan SK Federation headed by president Alextier Calimlim and league chief coordinator Felix Jun Mejia, will be held at the Tulagan gym and the format of the elimination round will be single round-robin and with no team-bracketing.
Eight top teams after the elimination round will qualify for the quarterfinals and the top four squads after the quarterfinals will go into the semis. The best two teams will clash for the championship match in a best-of-three series. In case of a double tie, Ronquillo said the win-over-the-other method will be enforced and the FIBA rules quotient-system will be applied if triple and quadruple ties occurred.
Trophies, medals and cash prizes will be awarded to the winning teams, plus a Most Valuable Player accolade.—JAGJr.
