BAYAMBANG–A laboratory manufacturing fake medicines was busted following a raid by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the police in a house in Barangay Tambac here before noon of March 6.

Arrested in the raid was the suspected owner of the laboratory, identified as Romeo Sagarino, 65, a businessman.

The raiding team included NBI agents from Manila headed by Rommel Vallejo, chief of the Intellectual Property Rights Division, based on search warrants issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Genoveva Maramba.

Seized were assorted regulated drugs, all believed to be fake, such as 25,000 capsules of Chloromycetin 500g, 10 boxes of unregistered Terramycin 5g, 25 boxes of gracing solutions, antibiotics, and vitamin pills for children.

Authorities said the fake medicines were possibly being readied for distribution to different drugstores in Pangasinan.

All the fake medicines confiscated from the possession, control and custody of the suspect were brought to NBI Manila for proper disposition.

The laboratory had no municipal permit nor permits issued by the Bureau of Food and Drug (BFAD) and the Department of Health.

Sagarino is still under investigation to determine who his partners, his sources and members of his networks of drugstores are.
