Ilocos Norte regains R1AA crown
URDANETA CITY—Ilocos Norte won back its crown, which it lost to Pangasinan II last year, as it lorded over the Region 1 Athletic Association (R1AA) Meet held at the Urdaneta National High School ground from March 18 to 24.
Ilocos Norte, the perennial champion of the meet prior to 2011 when it was known still called the Ilocos Region Athletic Association (IRAA) Meet, conquered most of the sporting events, amassing 617.17 points at the end of the competitions on Friday.
Unseated champion Pangasinan II placed second with 522.25 points, followed by Pangasinan 1 with 387.75 points.
La Union was in fourth place with 255 points, followed by San Fernando City with 163.67 points.
The other finishers in descending order are: Laoag City, Dagupan City, Urdaneta City, Ilocos Sur, San Carlos City, Alaminos City, Candon City, Batac City and Vigan City.
This year’s R1AA Meet, hosted by the Urdaneta City School Division, was a prelude to the national Palarong Pambansa on May 6 to 12 to be hosted by Pangasinan with the main venue in Lingayen plus Dagupan, San Carlos, Binmaley and Bugallon.
Pangasinan will be the only province to host the Palarong Pambansa twice, the first being 1995 when Fidel V. Ramos, a son of Lingayen, was the president of the Philippines.
