Espino vows to set new programs for scouting movement

LINGAYEN –Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. vowed to initiate and launch innovative programs for the scouting movement to further inspire the youth to become well-motivated and productive citizens in the future.

Elected for the fifth time as the chairman of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) Regional Council committee during the Ilocos Region Scout Committee meeting and election of officers on March 7 at the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council Office here, the governor said there is a need to first improve the program on scouting as one of the basic training grounds for the youth.

Scouting can serve to transform the young into independent individuals whose hearts and minds will be instilled with the value of survival, love of family, patriotism, honesty and love of God.

The governor stressed that in his years as chair of the regional scouting committee, he has never seen any significant accomplishment other than sticking with the traditional rules and regulations set by the national council as regards to scouting movement.

“Before we proceed to community involvement, we must first know the parameters of the movement and be mission-oriented,” Espino said, adding that the next thing to follow is the enhancement of the demeanor of every scout member for them to appear confident, well-disciplined and goal-oriented.

Aside from the regular programs of the BSP, Espino said programs for the youth will be launched to effect further enhancement on the scouting movement.

The council officials led by Dr. Sheila Sison, Department of Education Assistant District Supervisor, said the involvement of women executives to the BSP is one of the things that need further information as their inclusion is mainly one of the integral parts of the scouting movement.

The presence of women in men’s movement aptly connotes that the spirit of volunteerism to assist and help regardless of sexuality.

Meanwhile, Espino requested all council officers to come up with their individual reports involving their assigned areas, which include the organizational structure of the BSP from the regional down to the districts as initial step of improving the whole structure in the coming days.

Present during the council meeting were the various scout executives from the different provinces of the region and also the district commissioners throughout Pangasinan and Executive Assistant Ramon Morden, the regional council’s press relation officer.  (PIO/Ruby R. Bernardino)
