A COMMUNITY-based breast cancer management program was launched in Dagupan on March 8 as part of the observance of National Women’s Month.

The program involves an awareness campaign and the establishment of a referral network system through the City Health Office (CHO).

Dr. Aurora Cuizon, city cancer prevention and control program coordinator, said the program will address the increasing number breast cancer cases in the city for the past two years.

The CHO will conduct an information drive on self-examination methods for early detection and treatment for those who have signs and symptoms of possible breast cancer.

It will also facilitate treatment by assessing the health conditions of the patients and those identified with the ailment and refer them to partner institutions for cure.

Cuizon said the inability of most patients to afford direct and indirect costs of treatment lack of awareness on breast cancer is also one of the reasons for its growing incidence and low survival rate. (PIA-Pangasinan)
