Velasco writes new book on People Power
A COFFEE table book about the EDSA Revolution from the perspective of a “few good men” written by Dagupeño writer Melandrew Velasco will be out soon.
Titled “Silver Linings”, the book tells the story of the 1986 EDSA Revolution from the viewpoint of some of the personalities who put their lives on the line for People Power.
The book also recounts the journey to the People Power Revolt by the three Edsa 1 icons – the late President Corazon C. Aquino in the eyes of Senator Agapito “Butz” Aquino and her son, incumbent President Benigno Aquino III; Jaime Cardinal Sin in the eyes of Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas; and former President Fidel V. Ramos in the eyes of former officers of the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
The book also features accounts from co-authors P/Dir. Reynaldo Velasco (ret.), the first SAF Commander and former mayor of Sta. Barbara; and former Interior and Local Government Secretary Raffy Alunan III, himself an SAF honorary member.
“Silver Linings” also gives readers an authoritative analysis of the events of modern-day Philippine politics, including the economic revival years when Ramos, who was the AFP chief of staff in 1986, became President from 1992 to 1998; the overthrow of former President Joseph Estrada in 2001 in what has come to be called EDSA DOS; the repeated government ills seen in the Macapagal-Arroyo administration; and the rise of President Benigno Aquino III.
The book is co-sponsored by the Lopez Foundation, Metrobank Foundation, San Miguel Corporation, Bank of Commerce, Vice President Jejomar Binay, SM Foundation, and Friends of General Velasco in the PNP and AFP.
It is co-published by the Ramos Peace and Development Foundation (RPDEV) and Media Touchstone Ventures, Inc.
