The changing face of Calasiao
CALASIAO it is a-changin’.
Various construction works are taking shape, including the Robinson’s Place Calasiao, rehabilitation of the Villamil Bridge, and redesigning of the town plaza.
Municipal Administrator Vivencio Vallo said the local government under Mayor Mark Roy Macanlalay is excited about these developments and called on the townsfolk to support the changes.
“We should all help one another and in no time Calasiao will become a city,” he said.
Vallo said the Robinson’s Place, Robinsons Land Corporation’s first shopping mall in Pangasinan set to open on March 15, is expected to spur the economy and pave the way for other businesses, which will then create employment opportunities.
The rehabilitation of the Villamil Bridge, a link from Calasiao towards the central part of Pangasinan, has started and access has been closed effective January 31.
Vallo said traffic congestion is expected and appealed to all motorists and commuters to bear with the inconvenience and at the same time conform to advisories for everyone’s safety.
The first phase of the town plaza rehabilitation started last year with the installation of new benches, a fountain replacing the old mini-bridge, and lights.
The second phase of the plaza beautification project is scheduled in May.
Vallo also announced that the Department of Foreign Affairs will open a consular office in Calasiao to bring its services closer to Pangasinenses.
WHITE GOLD
As for the town’s most famous product, the puto, Vallo said this will continue to be treated as the town’s “white gold” and promoted, particularly through the annual Puto Festival.
“What sets the town’s product apart is the love of people for puto Calasiao,” Vallo said.
At the same time, Vallo said the local government is encouraging residents to also pursue their other products such bolo, tinapa, mangga, buro, tilapia, suman and rice. –Sher Pauline Palola
