PPC Sportsfest set Feb. 18

THE Pangasinan Press Club (PPC) will hold a three-weekend sports festival, dubbed “Palarong Media”, starting on February 18, in several venues.

Some 150 media practitioners and technical crewmembers affiliated with private and government media establishments in the province are participating in nine team and individual events.

Atty. Gonzalo Duque, PPC president and PUNCH columnist, said the Palarong Media will gather media men and women in sports activities to foster camaraderie, fellowship and harmony while developing fitness among them.

The first sportsfest for mediamen organized in 15 years, it will kick off with a fun run starting and ending at the Lyceum Northwestern University campus.

Other events to be played are basketball, volleyball chess, badminton, table tennis, fun shoot, and duck pin bowling.

Andy Estrada, the execom chairman of the tournament, said cash prizes amounting to P65,000 and certificates will be awarded to the top three winners of basketball, volleyball (men and women), badminton, table tennis, bowling, chess and shootfest.

Estrada added that a sports reporting-seminar workshop will also be held during the competition to in preparation for the coverage of the Palarong Pambansa which Pangasinan will host on May 6-12.

Winners will receive their cash prizes during a “boodle fight” fellowship at the end of the event.—JAG, Jr /Philamer Celi
