Pangasinan police readies for PNP’s 10 million trees project
SIX TREES A MONTH PER COP
COMMUNITY relations officers of the 44 municipal and four city police stations in the province met in Lingayen last Monday to plan for their contribution to the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) ‘Sampung Milyong Puno, Pamana sa Kalikasan’ project.
PNP Provincial Spokesperson P/Supt. Benjamin Ocumen said the activity does not simply involve the planting of trees, but more importantly the care and sustenance of the seedlings.
A committee will be formed to look after the growth of the trees, he said.
The PNP project to plant 10 million trees nationwide by next year is in support of the government’s national greening program.
“Pag dating ng 2013 at hindi nabuhay yung mga puno, magtatanim uli tayo at papalitan,” Ocumen said in a television interview.
Each policeman is obliged to plant at least six trees monthly until 2013.
The police officers, representing the 2,000 policemen in the province, said they do not see the planting of trees as an additional job but an important part of their job. (PIA-Pangasinan)
