Pangasinan holds 1st Pangasinan Literary Awards contest

LINGAYEN—The provincial government of Pangasinan is now accepting entries for its 1st Pangasinan Literary Awards contest, open to all writers in the province.

Malu Elduayan, chief of the Tourism Operations Division, said the literary contest which forms part of the Agew na Pangasinan celebration in April was conceptualized to help develop Pangasinan literature by providing incentives for professional and aspiring Pangasinan writers to craft their most proficient literary works in their native language.

Elduayan said the awards also seek to preserve the Pangasinan language and the Pangasinenses’ appreciation of their mother tongue in the written form.

Categories for the contest include Poetry and Short Story Categories for the Adult Division and Poetry and Essay Categories, Youth Division where the top three (3) entries for each division and category will be awarded with trophies and cash incentives ranging from P3, 000 to P15,000.

The contest theme, according to Elduayan, is open and free except for the Essay Writing contest for the youth division which is “Say Bilay na Sakey a Salita, Wala’d Mmabunan Litiratura.”

The Tourism operations Division chief said the deadline for submission of entries will be on March 14.

Launching activities will be held this month with poetry reading in major local television networks and the awarding ceremony, which is one of the highlights of the Agew na Pangasinan celebration, will be held on April 11.-[
