PAMMA routs UEP; LNU tames PIMSAT
JIMMY FERNANDEZ CUP
THE Pangasinan Merchant Marine Academy (PAMMA) Sea Lions, in a sterling performance, dealt the defending champion University of Eastern Pangasinan (UEP) Patriots their second consecutive loss in a week, 96-69, in their game Thursday for the ongoing Inter-Collegiate Invitational Basketball Championship of the 3rd Jimmy Fernandez Cup held at the DWAD Gym in Dagupan.
Meanwhile, the Lyceum Northwestern University (LNU) Dukes registered their first win in the league against winless PIMSAT Colleges Dragons, 89-83.
Tight defensive strategies and steady rebounding strides keyed the win for the Sea Lions despite the several adjustments employed by the Tigers in the plays.
Patriots’ hotshot Dionisio Cuaresma III topscored for the day with 25 points. With the win, PAMMA now shares the lead with AIE-Co Golden Eagles College at a 3-1 win-loss card.
Last Monday, in the first out-of-town game of the Cup held at the PUNP Gym in Urdaneta City, Pan Pacific University North Philippines (PUNP) Cruisers downed UEP, 98-90, while the University of Luzon (UL) Golden Tigers gored LNU, 93-77.
The current team standings are: AIE-C 3-1; PAMMA 3-1; UL 4-2; UEP 4-3; PUNP 2-3; LNU 1-2; and PIMSAT0-6.
The top two squads after the double round robin eliminations of the tournament will advance to the best-of-three championship series and the champion will represent Region I in the National Men’s Collegiate Athletic Association Basketball Championship set in Naga City on March 28 toApril 1. –Philamer C.
