NSBC reels off Feb. 27

THE National Students Basketball Championship (NSBC) under the auspices of the Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP) will open on February 27 at the CSI Stadia with simple ceremonies to be participated in by high school and collegiate teams from all over the country.

Participating in the Junior Division in this week-long sporting event hosted for the first time in Pangasinan are: Malay Boracay National High School (Aklan), Assumption College of Davao (Davao City), Bukidnon Faith Christian Academy (Bukidnon), Queen Anne School of Sta. Rosa (Laguna), University of Visayas (Cebu), and Divine Word Academy of Dagupan.

In the Senior Division: Lyceum of the Philippines University (Manila), Philippine Christian University (Manila), University of Cebu (Cebu), San Pedro College of Business Administration (Laguna), Jose Maria College (Davao City), Lyceum of Subic Bay (Zambales), and University of Luzon (Dagupan City).

Four other collegiate teams have yet to confirm their entry in the tournament, also sponsored by the CSI Group of Companies and USATV.

The collegiate champion will represent the Philippines in the Southeast Asian level eliminations to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in June, the winner of which will compete in the Asian Championship.

The competition, ending on March 3, will be played in four venues in Dagupan, namely: the CSI Stadia, Astrodome, Divine Word Academy Gymnasium, the Leisure Coast Resort Gymnasium.

Governor Amado Espino Jr., Dagupan Mayor Benjamin Lim and Vice-Mayor Belen Fernandez, the regional head of BAP; have been invited to grace the opening.

Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, national BAP president, and Secretary-General Graham Lim are also expected to attend.  City Councilor and former BAP Region I Director Luis Samson Jr. will officially declare the start of the tournament.—Philamer Celi
