URDANETA CITY— It appears policemen are now on the menu of possible targets of motorcycle-riding-in-tandem hitmen (MRTH) in addition to barangay officials and businessmen.

On Feb. 23, another policeman in the city was marked for liquidation but fortunately survived the attack.

PO3 Christopher Corpuz, 35, detailed with the Station Reaction Unit of the Urdaneta City Police, was rushed to the Sacred Heart Hospital shortly after two men on board an Enduro Motorcycle without plate number opened fire on him.

He is now in stable condition after doctors operated on his two bullet wounds in the left cheek.

The shooting happened in front of the Majesty Lumber and Hardware along Maharlika Highway in Barangay Nancayasan while Corpuz was on board his own motorcycle bound for home in Barangay Camanang from the city proper.

The gunmen used a Cal. 9-millimeter pistol as evidenced by one empty shell found by investigators at the crime scene.

Motive of the shooting is still unknown.

Two policemen assigned in Sta. Maria and Urdaneta already fell victims to MRTH. So far, not suspected MRTH has been arrested.

Meanwhile in Rosales, one Oswaldo Ledda, alias Boy Swaldo, 52, was arrested by joint police elements in possession of high-powered firearms and explosives in a raid in his home on Rizal Street.

The raid was carried out based on a search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Ulysses Raciles Butuyan of Branch 51.

Found at the suspect’s house was an AK 47 assault rifle, two fragmentation grenades, one rifle grenade and a Caliber 45 pistol.

Also recovered from Ledda’s home were two pieces of long magazine assembly and 16 live ammunition for AK 47, 10 live ammunition for Cal. 45 pistol and one magazine for live ammunition.

The raiders were comprised of joint elements from the Provincial Intelligence Branch, 3rd Company of the 1st Regional Public Safety Battalion and Rosales Police led by Chief Inspector Ronald Lee Sacyat.

Ledda is now facing a case of Illegal/Unlawful Possession of Firearm and Ammunition and explosives in violation of Republic Act 8294.
