THE Dagupan government signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with salt-manufacturing giant Salinas Foods Incorporated on Tuesday for the city’s Community Health Team (CHT) project.

Mayor Benjamin Lim and Johnny Khonghun, president of Salinas Foods Inc. , signed the partnership agreement to support of the city’s CHT initiative that will be launched next month.

Under the tie-up, Salinas Foods Inc., producer of Fidel iodized salt, will sponsor the promotion and enhancement of the CHT programs. The city government, in return, will include iodized salt utilization campaign in iodine/mineral deficiency reduction and micronutrient supplication among the “Ending Hidden Hunger” health advocacies as conceptualized by Lim.

PIGAR-PIGAR

Lim and Khonghun later met with the members of the City Pigar-Pigar Vendors Association led by its president, Rommel Cerezo, for the demonstration of the new meat preparation method using the Fidel Hammer Meat Tenderizing salt delivered by Chef Lisa Marie Lucio from the company’s Pacific Eco-tour Farms based in Bolinao.

“We aim to help you make pigar-pigar as your number two best offering, next to Bangus, to attract more tourists and foodies to come here,” said Khonghun.

Lim, for his part, said the new development will enhance Galvan’s Street’s status as the best place to eat the famed carabeef dish and bolster the city’s claim as the “Pigar-pigar capital of the country”.

Prior to the MOA signing, Khonghun, also president of the company’s advocacy group, Healthy Lifestyle Society of the Philippines, Inc., taught the barangay nurses and health workers the Nigari Waza exercise to improve cardiovascular circulation.

The nurses and Banrangay Health Workers, in turn, will teach the exercise to senior citizens in their respective areas. (CIO)
